Radio Mwangaza FM is a private Radio Station established on 24th December 2002 with the aim of fostering Peace, Love and Harmony among the audience through the dissemination of Gospel and Social values. It is popularly known as the “Voice of Peace and Love”.
HISTORY:The history of Radio Mwangaza FM is traced from the 1970s, when the Missionaries of the Precious Blood (C.PP.S) in Tanzania thought of bettering their missionary activities and making it effective by reaching many places especially the rural areas by disseminating the Gospel and Social values at a go.
This idea was materialized in December 24th 2002 when radio Mwangaza FM was officially inaugurated. This station is situated at Plot No. 1 Block B Centre, Kisasa area in Dodoma Urban, about six kilometers from city Centre on the way to Morogoro. It is owned by the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, A Catholic Missionary congregation.
OBJECTIVE:The following was the objectives surrounding its establishment
1.To raise the religious knowledge and practice of the people in the regions
2.To improve family morality and quality of family life
3.To improve health and hygiene
4.To raise the knowledge of public affairs through news and information program
5.Increasing the knowledge on human rights
6.Providing information to improve the economic conditions of the people by improving agricultural sector, small scale industries and family businesses
7.Reaching the rural people with information in a straightforward way.
The missionaries of the Precious Blood understand that evangelization from the grassroots through radio programs is one of the ways which leads to human liberation, and, because it covers a wide range of people within a very short period of time compared to Newspaper, its impact is easily felt through its useful and effective programs which effects change in the community/society. They (missionaries) aimed at a holistic growth of the people not only intellectually but also spiritually, socially, economically, morally and culturally. When Broadcasted, its message does not select between the rich and the poor, health and the sick, the elite and those who are not, child and adult. Its message is inclusive thus helping at solving problems at all levels.
When it comes to entertainment, the radio provides biased –free programs where gender, ethnicity, age, and condition are all considered. They are all thought of in terms of music, Good news, and educational programs. And with regard to the right to information, we are dedicated to letting people know what is happening from all over the world; we offer people have access to information to raise their awareness for their transformation.
COVERAGE: Radio Mwangaza owns two frequencies, 90.8 MHZ for Dodoma Region and 105.0 MHZ for Singida Region. The signal of Radio Mwangaza covers also the neighbouring Regions of Morogoro(Gairo), Manyara(Kiteto), Iringa(Mtera) and Eastern parts of Tabora (Malongwe, Mitundu, Kilumbi),
AUDIENCE:Generally covers all classes of people in the society as its audience. Through its wide range of programs, the number of its listeners is estimated to be more than 800,000 (Eight hundred thousand).
PROGRAMMES: Most of the programmes are locally produced by well trained journalists. Radio Mwangaza airs live and pre recorded programmes.
